Extraterrestrial life is intriguing. Ever since the night sky first made us think, we have come up with thousands of hypotheses about it. However, as we will see in a moment, our view is distorted; and the point of view is narrow.

The Urantia Book is undoubtedly a purely religious work. However, it is clearly different from other passes of this type. Not only because it redefines the very concept of religion, but also are its papers set on coherent cosmic foundations. The authors of the book have no doubts: We are not alone among the stars. We were also not the first. But the truth is indeed “out there” and the one which is most down-to-earth. This text then will be about the Earth, seen through the eyes of visitors from other planets.

Earth, or rather Urantia, as our planet is called in universe governments, is the six hundred and sixth inhabited world in the local planetary system of Satania. The planets of life are numbered consecutively, with an entry in the “registry of worlds inhabited by will creatures.” That’s right, the earth is the six hundred and sixth inhabited planet in the system, and that system is one of many. At the time of the revelation of the papers in Satania itself, there were already 619 planets like ours; 36 were approaching the stage where life could appear on them and another 200 surrounding spheres have evolved to be ready for this stage.

Although God inaugurates His reign in the heart of the individual, He rules over all material creation. And this power is absolute. It thus reaches not only the earliest manifestations of materialization, but also of being as such. God planned and looked upon the occurrence of time and space; he saw ancient cosmic metamorphoses and tended to the first heavenly bodies capable of receiving material life. And then more and more, all according to his will.

The Universal Father, though absolutely, does not rule personally. He passes on competences to his children and shares with us almost every level of this power. You really have God inside you. On the outside, however, it’s not the one you deal with most of the time—the cosmos works thanks to its celestial dawn. This is not what you would expect from religious revelation, but as The Urantia Book shows, the whole world is subject to divine bureaucracy. Everything is registered, catalogued and described in detail, also the cosmos itself.

Universal administration terminates on a single residential planet. Like ours. Going up, about 1000 of these planets constitute a local system, 100 systems constitute a constellation (that’s about 100,000 habitable planets), and 100 constellations make up a local universe (that’s about 10 million habitable planets). Then there is the minor sector, 100 local universes (one billion inhabitable planets), and the larger sector, 100 minor sectors (100 billion inhabitable planets). The 10 major sectors constitute a superuniverse, one trillion habitable planets. The Isle of Paradise—the abode of the Universal Father and the “geographic center of infinity”—is encircled by 7 superuniverses thus organized. It is a huge universe: 7 trillion planets on which people similar to us will develop. And ahead of us are the epochs of outer space. The earth has been given the number 5,342,482,337,666 in the catalog of inhabited worlds of the grand universe.

We are not alone. We never were. Earth is Urantia, one of the planets of the system of Satania, the constellation of Norlatiadek, the universe of Nebadon, the minor sector of Ensa, the major sector of Splandon, and the seventh superuniverse of Orvonton. Together with the inhabitants of trillions of populated worlds, we are part of an ever-expanding divine family. Even when we don’t realize it.

The First Dawn

The story of the origin of our planet as reported in The Urantia Book differs from the most recognized scientific hypotheses on this subject. According to the authors of the papers, the Earth comes directly from the Sun. Anyway, just like the entire Solar System (called Monmatia in the papers), it is a remnant of gases torn from the nearest star. The sun is therefore the mother of Urantia, the father being the Angona star system.

However, I will start a little earlier – when 6 billion years ago with the final eruption of the core of the Andronover Nebula, the Sun was born. One and a half billion years later, a huge star system appeared near lonely star — the aforementioned Angona. At its center lay an energized, massive “black space giant”. The powerful force of attraction of this black hole, as Angona approached the Sun, pulled larger and larger streams of gaseous matter from it. Parts of this material began to orbit the Sun, forming separate material bodies. The rest, due to gravity, returned to where it came from. The nearer Angona was the more abundant and spectacular the solar material ejections became. After five hundred thousand years of such dating, when Angona was the closest in history, our Sun was partially torn apart. A large column of gases permanently broke out from under the Sun’s gravity to later transform into the planets of the Solar System.

The Urantia Book gives a detailed account of the history of our planet, starting from its origin, which I have briefly outlined, through geological transformations and climatic revolutions, to the state when it turned out to be habitable. And further. You will read all of this in the fifty-seventh (and following) Urantia Book Paper — “The Origin of Urantia.”

A fragment of the Sun torn out by a passing visitor has spent billions of years catching smaller bodies in the Solar System to reach its current size (when comparing the size of the Earth with other inhabited worlds, it falls slightly below average) and to become our planet. The name Urantia was given to the Earth about one billion years ago; 993,499 years have passed (in 2025) since it was officially recognized as inhabited.

A human being – that sounds proud

We are the dominant species on Earth; the undisputed rulers of the planet. We tower over every form of life we know.

The Urantia Book ruthlessly, but with a certain amount of tenderness, knocks such ideas out of our minds and quickly indicates our place in the grand universe. Another time I will deal with the history of man presented in The Urantia Book. Also the place in which the authors believe we are now — and this is a very early stage of evolutionary development; additionally delayed by exceptional circumstances.

Our knowledge is adequate. Reading the Urantia Papers can therefore be like a cold shower. It makes us realize that we know practically nothing about the world around us, even less about ourselves and God. It will sound all the more funny when we remember some of the wise men who, just like their predecessors, in the name of science or religion, declared that they already knew everything.

Perturbations

It is well known that evolution takes time, a lot of time. And we, the inhabitants of the Earth, are young in relation to the planet itself or the Sun. Compared to the universe; humanity was born barely a second ago. Therefore, age is, so to speak, a natural cause of our weak position in the evolutionary field. However, it is not the only one.

We have no luck with politicians and not only the human ones, for according to the records of the book, Urantia was quarantined under – spiritual isolation – as a result of the joining of its rulers in the Lucifer rebellion, hence our sense of cosmic loneliness. This state has been going on for two hundred thousand years. We don’t remember that it used to be different. The disloyalty of Caligastia, the then ruler of our planet, caused general confusion; “It robbed all subsequent generations of the moral support that a well-organized society would provide.” Lucifer had actually fomented a superhuman rebellion and its effects have indeed retarded our development. But it had nothing to do with the exaggerated struggle of the hideous ruler of hell against the pristine divine hosts that many know from religion lessons.

Another misrepresented fact that we may be familiar with that has affected the state of our planet is the Adamic apostasy. As in the case of Lucifer’s rebellion, the story of Adam and Eve was also distorted. Nevertheless, if we are to believe the papers, it did indeed take place. Although with a different effect than commonly known, also the “original sin” ( which in fact was not a sin) had a negative impact on our current situation; “He deprived the races of men of such superior physical characteristics as would be more in harmony with their spiritual aspirations.”

Here it’s not normal. The Caligastia betrayal and the Adamic default delayed and disrupted all phases of our intellectual progress and spiritual attainment. This is why we feel so little; this is why we know so little and that is why we are agondonters.

And this is not the end.

About one in ten habitable worlds is designated as a “decimal planet.” On them, greater deviations from the standard life plan are allowed. As you can probably already guess, it was on Earth that such experiments were allowed. Urantia differs markedly from the sister spheres of Satania. There are only 61 similar worlds in the entire system. Many forms of life have appeared here that do not exist anywhere else and many common species do not occur in our planet at all. This experiment, in conjunction with Lucifer’s rebellion, and thus also the mistake of Adam and Eve, further complicated our situation.

From the point of view of the authors of The Urantia Book, we are far behind. Whether we consider spiritual consciousness or even knowledge, we are barely crawling. There is nothing wrong with that. Evolution is doing its job unchecked, and some of the early achievements have not been completely lost. Although egocentrism makes us a bit like a jagged mongrel that has not poked his muzzle outside the pen, but screeches the loudest, this is the path we develop. We growl, bark, but in religion, as exemplified by the aforementioned Lucifer rebellion and the Adamic apostasy (and many more), we mainly err. We got wind on our history, but it is not the real one.

Urantiocentrism

We were not lucky. We will feel the effects of those choices and coincidences for a long time. In all of this, The Urantia Book also touches our pride. Because we are not as important as we think, neither the only ones, nor the most important, nor the smartest in the mindless universe. Atheists, who use science, are like first-graders who, after watching a YouTube video discovered that they are smarter than their parents. Catholics referring to the Bible are like preschoolers who will not accept, that comics about Batman are fiction.

Earth is a small, backward planet, and until recently it was an insignificant planet. But the most consequential circumstance – the bestowal of Michael the Creator, over 2000 years ago – brought Urantia to the lips of a whole universe.

With the story of Jesus of Nazareth – incarnation of Son Michael, on earth – is like with many of our beliefs. We know something, but we twisted it in such a way, that the figure of Jesus looks like from in a distorting mirror. Jesus, the Paradise Creator Son, though not the second person of the Trinity, even though he did not walk on water and did not die for our sins, is indeed the Creator; he is also the builder and sovereign ruler of our universe. To all the inhabited planets of Nebadon, including Earth, he is practically speaking, God, the personification of all that we can understand about him. And his visit here changed the status of our planet forever.

The divine plan is for each local universe to have 10 million inhabited planets. The creators and rulers of the various universes (yes, Jesus is one of many Sons of God like Him) choose one from among them where they will incarnate as a human being; and there they live an ordinary human life. This is for a specific reason and purpose; not to appease an angry God. Michael of Nebadon, the creator and ruler of our universe, chose Earth out of ten million of his planets and us as witnesses of this one-time event. Quite logically, normal worlds treat such a distinction as the greatest honor. We have rejected the incarnate Creator Son and then we judged him unjustly, and finally tortured and brutally murdered him. Even today, we still mock him and distort what he said.

With God

The development of human species follows a specific evolutionary path. This path from the perspective of the planet is, of course, always unique. But generally, the development of the inhabited worlds is usually the same. Not with us.

These complexities affect not only the current state of the human species on Earth, but also the status and administration of the planet itself. Life on unspoiled worlds must be very different from what it is here. All planets have superhuman government and administrative staff; mostly invisible to human eyes. But on these normal ones there are also superhuman messengers of God, who are visible to all half-breeds, like Adams and Eves. These visible beings are long-lived and sometimes immortal. With their spirit associates, they exercise common sovereignty over the evolving human species almost from the first manifestations of free will (it should be borne in mind that such an early human is not yet very different from the animal from which he evolved). The power that the people there know is permanent—all generations remember the same divine representatives. Their leadership is consistent and mature, and the effects of their work are clear and quantifiable. Divine beings see their human brothers as partners and wards and never as subordinates or slaves. They nurture the human spirit and gradually eradicate the remnants of animal tendencies. Religion or even the belief in God itself, on such worlds must have a completely different overtone. It is not without reason that the authors of the book regret that we will not be able to imagine what normal (not only biological) life can look like.

The Urantia Government

Although there is no overt superhuman government on Earth, we are not left without heavenly protection. We have managers and representatives who take care of our affairs. Such a government is necessarily not typical, so it does not operate according to generally applicable rules. It differs not only from those on the other worlds of our system, but from all others throughout the universe. Initially, however, everything went according to plan.

Good beginnings of evil

In accordance with standard procedures, after Earth attained planetary status, Lucifer, then the system ruler, became the trustee of authority on such a young sphere. The system Sovereign has many similar planets under him, so that the joint commission of twelve Melchizedeks and Life Carriers on Urantia has exercised direct sovereignty until the arrival of the appointed Planetary Prince. The Planetary Prince, Caligastia, appeared on earth some 500,000 years ago; almost half a billion primitive human beings have already lived here. Caligastia was not alone, of course. He had at his disposal a numerous, but typical for such missions, support personnel. It was then that the first visible, though superhuman (and therefore immortal) administrators came to Earth and thus did the original divine government of Urantia become established. Caligastia was in constant contact with his superiors and conscientiously discharged his duties for 300,000 years.

Upon the joining of the Planetary Prince of Urantia in the Lucifer rebellion, Earth lost its connection with the universe administrative divisions. Although not all of Caligastia’s subordinates followed him, every group of celestial life stationed on the planet was cut off without warning from outside information and advice. There was (not only) administrative chaos. This state of affairs continued for another 200,000 years, until the end of Christ Michael’s earth bestowal in the flesh, when he finally terminated the Satania rebellion and was proclaimed the new Planetary Prince of Urantia. It remains so to this day. The Creator and Sovereign of the whole universe is at one time the Prince of one of the ten million worlds which he created, the Earth.

In the meantime, not long after the Caligastia betrayal, the Melchizedeks again assumed leadership of Urantia. They served in this role for over 150,000 years, until the arrival of the next visible administrators: Adam and Eve. Under normal circumstances Adam and Eve work closely with the government of the Planetary Prince. On Earth, they had to fend for themselves. As we already know, they were not up to the task.

We should bear in mind that, notwithstanding his support for Lucifer, Caligastia remained the titular Planetary Prince of Urantia. He was a high-order Son of the local universe by origin, and he was still held in high esteem by many of the beings on Earth at this time. To some, it was unthinkable that such an experienced and talented administrator could go astray; people were pawns at best. Caligastia was not officially dethroned until the time of the bestowal of Urantia by Michael. Until then, he had all the means to spin his intrigue. He also had easy access to Adam and Eve. And these, isolated and lonesome after the departure of the Melchizedeks, were not prepared for such circumstances. After the default of Adam and Eve, less than 40,000 years ago, Melchizedeks eventually returned to Earth to exercise commissary rule.

Twenty-four counsellors

With his seventh bestowal Christ Michael finally ended the Satania rebellion. But the confusion and damage which Caligastia wrought on Earth cannot be straightened out just like that. We must also remember that Urantia was not the only planet in the system whose rulers turned against the Creator Son.

Michael’s only advance in the administration of Earth was the establishment of the “Jerusem commission”, a body most akin to the legislative section of the planetary government. This commission was commissioned to represent the new Prince — and sovereign of the entire universe — not only in the Urantia government but in the governments of all thirty-six of the isolated planets of the system (each of the isolated planets has its own advisers and authorities, but they are subject to the Jerusem commission). The newly created committee consisted of twenty-four councillors; most of them are mortals from Earth, among others; John the Baptist, Moses, Enoch, but also the rehabilitated Adam and Eve, or Machiventa Melchizedek, who incarnated as a man in Abraham’s time. Machiventa has recently been entrusted by Michael with the role of governor (who, however, did not change his orders in any way). More details on the composition of the twenty-four attorneys-at-law can be found at this link. Interestingly, only sixteen seats in the Jerusem council are permanently filled. The remaining 8 are filled with temporary assignments to await the present and future Urantians of the ascending ages.

The writers of The Urantia Book do not know what conditions must be fulfilled in order to be incorporated into the council of twenty-four. However, they note that all members of the group (except Machiventa) were distinguished by leadership talent on Earth. They subsequently developed these abilities on the mansion worlds of Satania and through training at the capital, Jerusem (hence the name of their commission, I assume). Nominations for commission service proceed from the cabinet of the new Satania Sovereign, Lanaforge, are confirmed by the Most Highs of Edentia, and are subsequently accepted by the Assigned Sentinel of Jerusem. The final appointment as a member is effected by Gabriel of Salvington in accordance with the authority of Michael. It is not known how long the permanent members of the commission will remain in their positions. They have now all been excluded from the standard ascension procedure.

Governor

This specific human-superhuman government pays special attention to our planet. After all, it has a lot in common with the Earth. The commission maintains close contact with Michael and supervises all activities, arising out of the fact that he has his final bestowal on Earth. On a rotational basis, one of them stays here permanently.

Every 100 years the counselors designate one of their member as the administrative representative — the resident Governor General of Urantia. The first came to earth not long after Jesus’ death, on the day of Pentecost. The last change in the governor’s position was quite recent: at the time of the revelation of the papers, the twentieth person in a row took over.

The Governor General does not exercise the actual, personal power that someone like the Prime Minister of Government would have. Rather does he function as the co-ordinating person of the superhuman administration — the leader of the celestial beings ministering on Earth. Under his supervision most of the problems or disagreements arising among the midway creatures and planetary supervision seraphim are settled by mutual agreement (albeit all of its provisions may be subject to appeal).

The seraphim of planetary supervision

Of course, the Governor General does not work alone. He has to assist the 12 corps of high seraphim — the graduates of Seraphington who serve as the immediate and “superhuman directors of planetary progress and stabilization”. The heads of individual groups constitute the direct administrative cabinet of the governor.

I do not know how these angels act, for it is difficult to attribute any specific influence to them. However, the way The Urantia Book describes them sounds extremely intriguing. I allowed myself some loose guesses.

• The angels of the age oversee the generations of the present dispensation so that we can adapt to the age in which we live. The evolution of human species is or rather should follow a specific course. The bumps on our route disturbed this progress. Perhaps in some respects we may be a little farther away than we should be (because of the visit of the bestowal Son), but we are generally behind (because of the Lucifer rebellion). It seems to me that our intellectual (technical) development has disproportionately outpaced our spiritual (religious) state. That’s why I assume that the angels of the era are supposed to inspire us (or manipulate us) so that we want to make up for these losses. So that during the present system of justice we will shave off the guidelines of the present era. The corps of angels now serving on earth is the third group of this type to be assigned here.
• The angels of progress, in fostering the development of innate tendencies of evolutionary creatures, initiate the evolutionary progress of future ages. The angelic planetary supervision corps certainly works together. However, I think that the first 3 groups work complementarily towards each other. While the angels of the age support us to catch up with the past, the angels of progress make sure that we do not let go of the demands of the future. Currently, the second team of angels of progress serves on Earth.
• Religious guardians, also known as angels of the churches, complement this temporary trio. While the angels of the age are fine-tuning the present and the angels of progress are arranging the future, the angels of the churches are caring for the past. Their task is to preserve old, but still valid ideals and ensure their safe transit to subsequent eras. They translate the eternal truths of outdated religions into modern language, thus making sure that we do not bury them along with the past. So they act, in a sense, on the opposite side of the angels of progress. But don’t let the name fool you—angel churches have nothing to do with sects and organized religions. This is the fifth angelic group designated for such tasks.
• The angels of national life are concerned with political undertakings; they are particularly concerned with the international relations here. Contemporary politics is dealt with by the fourth corps of angels.
• The angels of the races, as the name implies, work for the preservation of the human races on Earth; however, they do not pay attention to political or religious divisions. The seraphim assigned to this type of work were never changed.
• The angels of the future are close to the angels of progress. While the latter prepare us for the challenges of the future era, the angels of the future anticipate it and plan the upcoming undertakings. The Urantia Book calls them “the architects of the ages to come”. It is also the first such group operating on Earth.
• The focus of the angels of enlightenment is education. They deal with mental and moral teaching of individuals, but also families, communities or entire nations. Currently, the third corps of angels of enlightenment operates here.
• Health angels are assigned to health care facilities. This is the sixth such group operating on Earth.
• The angels of the family care about the preservation and development of the institution of the family. This is the fifth planetary surveillance corps assigned to such assignments.
• The angels of the economy support the proper development of economic conditions. On Earth, this is the eighth group in this role.
• Entertainment angels nurture the values of fun, humor, and rest. They strive to promote and improve healthy human entertainment, and thus support the efficient use of free time. This is the third group of angels of this kind.
• The angels of superhuman ministry support other superhuman personalities operating on Earth. This corps, like the corps of the angels of the races and the angels of the future, has never been changed.

Superhuman beings, and this applies to the high Sons of God (and God himself) and to all the angelic orders, cannot interfere with the human will — God will never compel you to do anything. The angels of planetary supervision must therefore arrange planetary conditions and properly combine the existing circumstances. What does it really look like? I do not know. The chief of the seraphim on Earth says that they use “many means” for this. Significantly, these same master seraphim are also concerned with the conduct of the earthly reserve corps of destiny.

Regent

The supermaterial government of Urantia maintains no close organizational contact with the higher units of the local universe. And the counselors of the Jerusem commission, though with valid authority from Michael himself, do not have full authority.

The administrative structure of Urantia is further complicated by the arbitrary seizure of planetary sovereignty by the government of the constellation of Norlatiadek, which occurred shortly after the outbreak of rebellion. Ever since has there been a Vorondadek Son on Earth, an observer of the Most Highs from Norlatiadek’s capital of Edentia. The governor general is the acting and advisory executive chief of the planet, but the veto power always rests with the Most High observer (the angels of the planetary watch corps, however, report directly to the resident governor on earth; they function independently of the overcontrol of the Most High observer). The Most High observer, in connection with the absence of Michael’s direct work on Urantia, is therefore at present the supreme trustee of planetary authority.

In moments of serious crises, it is the Vorondadek Son who is the real and independent head of the superhuman government. During such periods, and this has occurred 33 times in the history of Urantia, the Most High observer has unquestioned authority over all the ministers and administrators on the planet. (Except for the branch organization of archangels. upon the completion of the seventh bestowal Earth became the divisional headquarters of the archangelic universe administration and the director of a portion of their activities in connection with the Paradise ascension program. In purely “spiritual problems” and in some “purely personal” matters, the supreme authority lies in the hands of the commanding archangel.) The ministry of the Most High observers is also rotational. The current representative of the constellation authorities is the twenty-third in a row in this position.

Interestingly, there are also three Personalized Adjusters at work here. Their work, though in every measure active, must be mysterious even to the higher superhuman beings. The current Most High observer found out about them only at the moment when he took over the regency (during previous tours they did not show their presence).

Midway creatures

We are here for a moment. These several dozen years of life, in the face of the planet, are a moment and nothing in the face of the universe.

Midway creatures are the first group of planetary permanent inhabitants on which animal origin beings manifest free will. The midwayers were called into existence fully formed, they never grew up and they won’t get old either. They were here before us. They will remain after our death. They serve by growing in wisdom and experience.

These unique beings live on most inhabited worlds; on all decimal planets. From the perspective of the writers of The Urantia Book, terrestrial civilization is a joint creation of humans and midway creatures. And while we are the physical, therefore the most self-evident, residents, it is the midwayers who are designated Urantia citizens. Their culture, which is after all the product of immortal beings, is resistant to temporal and changing fates, which can oppress human civilization. We, from generation to generation, forget. The corps of midwayers always remembers everything, and this memory is the repository of the traditions of our world. Thanks to them, the culture of this planet will never perish. It is not the winners who write history. This is done by midway creatures.

Caligastia deceived many midwayers, and these rebels did many strange things on Earth. It is to them (and other wandering creatures) that we owe legends about possessions, demons or other strigas. Unsupervised, lost midwayers appeared to mortals again and again; sometimes they influenced inferior minds and were able to control human life to some extent. Evil spirits did exist. All this was possible and actually happened. Until then Christ Michael, embracing the fullness of universe sovereignty put an end to such excesses forever. All modern revelations about possession or demonic possessions are, for one reason or another, made up.

At the present time the “United Midwayers of Urantia” are a unique and rebellious group of planetary helpers. None of them yielded to the pressure of disloyal superiors. They continue to play their part in planetary evolution continuously and faithfully. As Urantia citizens and our cousins, they work assiduously and determinedly for the advancement of their native — our — planet. Their attitude is expressed in the motto: “What the United Midwayers undertake, the United Midwayers do”. It is thanks to them, among other things, that you can read The Urantia Book.

Will there be a sequel?

What Lies for Urantia? In fact, no one knows. From the farthest perspective, the return of our planet to the right evolutionary track is certain. Other descending Sons will appear here; as promised, Christ Michael himself will visit us again. There will be more epochs, and with them new justice systems. The era of light and life is inevitable. This is God’s will. However, this is a song of the distant future.

Sooner, as the authors of this book predict, the aforementioned counselor of the Jerusem commission, Machiventa Melchizedek, vicegerent of the Planetary Prince, will take the place of the Planetary Sovereign of Urantia. On the system capital it is also conjectured that he may be accompanied by the children (son and daughter) of Adam and Eve who are currently stationed on Edentia as wards of the Most Highs. However, due to the fact that the status of our planet is currently a universal phenomenon, all this is only conjecture.

A test of faith

There is no denying that there is no corporeal staff of the Planetary Prince on Earth and no material government of Adam and Eve. The writers of The Urantia Book reassure us that these deficiencies are partially compensated by exceptional midway creatures and special angelic ministries. The absence of the Planetary Prince is compensated by the presence of the Governor General, the archangels, and the Most High observer. There are also still on Earth the older pair of Life Carriers and their twelve associates, who were the first to become permanent citizens.

This does not change the fact that we feel alone, not only here, but throughout the cosmos. Some atheists consider this to be an indisputable fact. Believers are only getting more and more confused. Because on the one hand, we know that there is something more; we feel it, even if we can’t see it. On the other hand, however, religious organizations and sects, with the Catholic Church at the forefront, distort the evidence of religion in such a way that it is easy to doubt.

The Urantia Book does not help much in this respect either. Although we get a fascinating account of what is happening here, we can only verify these revelations in the soul.
