About The Urantia Book

The Urantia Book is the result of years of work by the Contact Commission under the direction of Dr. William S. Sadler. First published in 1955 in the United States, today it is available almost all over the world. The Polish translation by Małgorzata and Przemysław Jaworski has been available online since 2006; in 2010 a book edition was published.

As a fundamentally religious work, The Urantia Book is in a difficult position. The conditions in which the Messages were received are shrouded in mystery, and random tales of unusual dreams, hauntings or materializations must arouse a note of skepticism. In my case, they did. Such unclear circumstances of the preparation of the book will stubbornly discourage unbelievers. After all, this is another religious book — the foundations of a sect. On the other hand, the message of The Urantia Book marginalizes the importance of dogma, and therefore the importance of the priesthood; it corrects superstitions and beliefs that contradict facts; it deprives organizations of religious power, and deprives members of a pretext for a sense of superiority; by redefining religion, it encourages a thorough review of one’s own (dis)belief in God, which is why it will not quickly find supporters among the most fervent believers. The contents of The Urantia Book are radically different from other religious teachings. They do not show the only way; they exalt or condemn no one; We will not find naive promises or threats prone to overinterpretation.

The records of The Urantia Book touch upon the realms of philosophy, cosmology, history, and sociology, but chiefly upon religion and spirit. The messages primarily refer to faith in one God and subjective spiritual experiences; the rest is a useful ground for this. Although presented in a tone of unwavering confidence, they do not pose as the only truth. However, they can become an encouragement to broaden the perspective from which the reader looks not only at himself, but also at the entire universe. The teachings of the book, in the words of its superhuman authors, serve to “augment cosmic consciousness and enrich man’s spiritual perception”.

About The Urantia Book

The language in which The Urantia Book is revealed is comparatively simple. Although the authors use familiar religious writings, especially the Bible, the form of the messages has been adapted to modern language. However, due to the fact that the enormity of the issues raised seems to go beyond the capacity of human imagination, some of its fragments may sound abstract. It is not difficult to become discouraged, and the Bible itself is easily discredited and rejected. However, when we accept that not everything has to be within our reach, when we pay a little more attention to it, it will turn out that the tone of the messages is credible and coherent.

For many, The Urantia Book will remain a curiosity. For others, it is only a harmful creation; whether socially or religiously. Some, however, find in it even today the confirmation of their own sincere spiritual experiences; Some will find them tomorrow. In fact, The Urantia Book is one of many divinely coordinated revelations which constantly and consistently push the human race toward the better, toward God, the Universal Father.

The Urantia Papers. The papers, of which this is one, constitute the most recent presentation of truth to the mortals of Urantia. These papers differ from all previous revelations, for they are not the work of a single universe personality but a composite presentation by many beings. But no revelation short of the attainment of the Universal Father can ever be complete. All other celestial ministrations are no more than partial, transient, and practically adapted to local conditions in time and space. While such admissions as this may possibly detract from the immediate force and authority of all revelations, the time has arrived on Urantia when it is advisable to make such frank statements, even at the risk of weakening the future influence and authority of this, the most recent of the revelations of truth to the mortal races of Urantia.
